Penetanguishene's Jamie Hinton hits the jackpot with her first 50/50 ticket

Penetanguishene's Jamie Hinton got lucky in January with her very first Drayton Entertainment 50/50 ticket.

The first time’s a charm for Jamie Hinton, the 50/50 jackpot winner at the start of the year. She was relaxing at home with a book, when she received a phone call from Artistic Director Alex Mustakas, who informed her that she had the winning ticket in the January prize draw.

It took a while for the surprise to sink in.

“I thought, ‘No way! It’s a scam!’”, says the Penetanguishene resident. “I had just bought the ticket the day before, and I had no idea when the draw was.”

This was the first time that Hinton had played the 50/50 lottery. “I did it to give back to our local community,” she says.

Ticket number #99009650010 won her $13,955, and that windfall couldn’t have come up at a better time. “We have two weddings coming up in our family in the fall, so this is going to help pay for them.”

As she’d been away for a while, it wasn’t until March that Hinton was able to meet with Associate Artistic Director David Connolly to collect her winnings.

Hinton’s first Drayton Entertainment show was last summer’s Fiddler on the Loose at her nearest venue, King’s Wharf Theatre. She and her husband, Andrew, enjoyed it so much that they’ll be returning for all four shows this Season.

“We bought a subscription for the coming year,” she says. “We thought the show was really well done and had a lot of energy, so we decided, yeah, let’s support our local theatre.”

Drayton Entertainment’s Associate Artistic Director David Connolly presented Jamie Hinton with her big prize in March.
