Canada’s Got Talent Contestant Stacey Kay comes to Cambridge for Hometown Concert

Cambridge’s Stacey Kay is currently impressing audiences and judges alike as a semi-finalist on Citytv's new season of the popular competition Canada's Got Talent. Kay received the highly-anticipated Golden Buzzer from Judge Kardinal Offishall on the April 19 episode of the hit TV show after performing an energetic rendition of “Lady Marmalade” by soul singer Patti LaBelle. Kay will compete for a spot in the finale on tonight’s penultimate episode. Audiences can tune in to vote her through to the live finale next Tuesday. Read the release here.
 

Denfield Resident Wins $23,367 in April 50/50

Michelle Jeffrey from Denfield has been attending shows at the Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend with her family for years. When the theatre launched its monthly 50/50 draw in March of 2021, she began buying tickets every month to show her support. 2022 Season Announced - Live Theatre Is Back on Four Local Stages

Drayton Entertainment will finally welcome audiences back to all of its theatres across the province this year including four local venues – the Drayton Festival Theatre in Drayton, Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge, St. Jacobs Country Playhouse and Schoolhouse Theatre in St. Jacobs. The not-for-profit charitable arts organization’s stages will be alive with memorable music, entertaining stories, joyful laughter, heartfelt applause, and maybe even a few tears as audiences, artists, volunteers, musicians, backstage crew, and more celebrate the return of live theatre with 15 productions on stage during the 2022 Season, which will run from May 25 to December 31. The historic Huron Country Playhouse will finally welcome audiences back to the Mainstage and newly named South Huron Stage (formerly Playhouse II) in Grand Bend this year. 2022 is a landmark season for the Huron Country Playhouse as the iconic summer theatre destination celebrates 50 years of theatre in Grand Bend. Over 230 productions have been on stage at the Huron Country Playhouse since its inaugural season in 1972. The venue’s two stages will be filled with memorable music, entertaining stories, joyful laughter, heartfelt applause, and maybe even a few tears as audiences, artists, volunteers, musicians, backstage crew, and more celebrate the return of live theatre with five productions on stage during the summer season, which will run from June 23 to September 4. Provincial Grant Supports 2022 Season at 3 Theatres

In 2021, Drayton Entertainment received a $247,600 grant from the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund – Operating stream. This funding, administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, will allow Drayton Entertainment to support ongoing operating expenses, maintain and upgrade theatre equipment, and implement Health & Safety protocols amid the ongoing pandemic. It will also help the not-for-profit charitable arts organization reopen its three theatres in the Region of Waterloo: St. Jacobs Country Playhouse, St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Theatre, and Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge. March Break Broadway Boot Camp In Person

Calling all theatre fans ages 9 to 18! Have fun and meet new friends during five days of performing arts training in Drayton Entertainment’s popular March Break Broadway Boot Camps, which will be held in person at the brand new Youth Academy. There are two options – Disney on Broadway Boot Camp for ages 9 to 11, and Broadway Blockbusters Boot Camp for ages 12 to 18. The camps will run from Monday, March 14 to Friday, March 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Parents and youth are encouraged to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. OTF Grant to Drayton Entertainment Provides Vital Support for Youth Programs

Drayton Entertainment’s plans to create a home for community building and arts-based learning for youth is one step closer to reality, thanks to a $100,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, (OTF). The award-winning not-for-profit arts organization will renovate a former industrial space to create an accessible multi-use and multi-flex cultural incubator that will host a range of programs for young people throughout the Region of Waterloo. Named after the not-for-profit theatre company’s first volunteer Jean Campbell, the award recognizes volunteers whose commitment, positivity, and passion help to support the various Drayton Entertainment theatres. The recipients are Janet and Michael Collins from Cambridge. Calling all theatre fans ages 9 to 19! Drayton Entertainment’s online Broadway Bootcamp for youth is so popular that the first spring break session sold out in 48 hours. Due to high demand, the not-for-profit charitable arts organization has added another two-day session during spring break on Wednesday, April 14 and Thursday, April 15. Free Livestream Cabaret Concert Series

In partnership with the Music Performance Trust Fund, Drayton Entertainment will present six livestreamed music concerts on select Sundays from March 7 through April 18 for free. From crooner classics and jazz standards to Broadway sensations, popular songs, and more, the series will feature talented singers and musicians performing a variety of memorable hits and unknown gems live to air.
