Canadian Idol Winner Returns to High School Musical

Canadian pop singer Melissa O'Neil, best known for reaching stardom as winner of Canadian Idol (2005), will reprise her leading role as Gabriella in Drayton Entertainment's hit production of Disney's High School Musical.

Melissa was the first female winner to take the Canadian Idol crown.  She became a household name with her first single, "Alive", which debuted at number one on the Canadian singles chart, a position it held for four weeks. The single went on to be certified four-times platinum by the CRIA.  Following the critical and commercial acclaim of her self-titled debut album, O'Neil was nominated for a Juno Award as Best New Artist.

"Melissa brings the stunning vocal prowess and youthful vitality required for an exuberant production like High School Musical," says Alex Mustakas.  "I am sure her many fans will enjoy seeing their Canadian Idol in a brand new light."

The production runs for four weeks at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse in Waterloo, April 21st through May 15th, and for three weeks at the Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend, May 19th through May 30th.
