2007 is an important milestone in Canada's history, as our majestic country proudly celebrates its 140th birthday. We have a rich history of opening our doors and embracing diverse cultures and creeds, which is a primary reason my Greek Cypriot family immigrated to Canada when I was a young child.
My parents wanted to offer me a future filled with unlimited opportunities, and like Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, I was able to embark on an epic adventure and dream "The Impossible Dream."
That original vision took the form of a tiny theatre festival in the heart of Wellington County. When I arrived in the village of Drayton 17 years ago, I didn't have lofty expectations or a long-term plan in mind; I just wanted to provide an outlet for creativity and expose people to the magic of live theatre.
However, what started out as a humble dream mushroomed into one of the great success stories in Canadian theatre, as Drayton Entertainment now consists of the Drayton Festival Theatre in Drayton, Huron Country Playhouse and Playhouse II in Grand Bend, King's Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene, and St. Jacobs Country Playhouse and Schoolhouse Theatre in St. Jacobs. With 22 productions running at six venues over a full calendar year, our door is always open!
This ultimately results in an enhanced theatre experience for you, our valued patron, as you have the freedom to mix and match subscription packages. Select tickets to any performance, at any of our six theatres, for any date! From crooning cops and suspect cash, to jellicle cats playing in the trash, our 2007 playbill covers the spectrum of music, laughter, and drama.
As we usher in another exciting season, we invite you to discover and open the door to a world that will inspire you to join in this glorious quest and reach for the unreachable star.
